Early on in my medical training, I chose Family Medicine as my specialty as it allows me to provide care for all ages, deal with families, and most importatnly, develop a personal relationship with my patients. After working in a group setting for five years and feeling my patients' frustration, I wanted to try a different, more satisfying model of medical practice, and Pinnacle Family Medicine was born. This model incorporates office efficiency, low overhead, electronic medical records, same day access, extended appointments and open lines of communication between patients and myself. Now I am able to spend more time with my patients and have a much deeper understanding of each individual person's situation.
One of my main focuses is on preventative medicine. In addition to diagnosing and treating acute illnesses, I see myself as a consultant to let you know how best to achieve and maintain a high quality of life. Managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia are particular areas of interest to me, as they can have such a profound impact on the leading cause of death and disability in our country - cardiovascular disease (heart attacks and strokes). Early detection of cancer is also of high importance. I believe an annual health review, including a complete physical and other studies (labs, EKG, mammogram) if appropriate, is an important step in achieving this.
I believe in using the least amount of medication to acheive goals, and strongly recommend healthy lifestyle changes such as diet, exercise, and weight management. I also refrain from using antibiotics unnecessarily to minimize side effects and resistance.
The model for Pinnacle Family Medicine was designed to accomplish several things: personalized care, efficiency, accessibility, whole-person care, and low overhead. I have been thrilled with this 'Norman Rockwell practice using 21st century technology' as the original physician who started this model describes it. As part of the Ideal Medical Practice (IMP) Cohort 1, I have been introducing and testing practice improvements to excel in patient care. As part of this distinguished research, I have been mentioned in The Wall Street Journal, Medical Economics, and The Digital Office. As a pioneer in Virtual Visits, I have written an article for Family Practice Management and been mentioned in Family Practice News, Modern HealthCare, and Patient Care.
My family loves living in Woodland Park. My husband is an electrical engineer, and we have been blessed with two sons; ages ten and seven. Our latest addition is our wonderful golden retriever, Murphey, who now serves as office greeter and warm fuzzy. Our cat keeps to herself, except for using my husband as her perch.
My main passion outside of family and medicine is handbells. I am part of the Pikes Peak Ringers, a community auditioned handbell choir in Colorado Springs. With them, I perform throughout Colorado and go on out-of-state tours on occasion.
